Two Australian charities have benefited from the Lott, with the received donations being estimated at about AU$50,000. The Lott decided to make the donations to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation (WCHF) and the Childhood Cancer Association (CCA) right before Christmas.
This is not the first donation to Australian charities that is made by the Lott. For years, the organisation has been contributing millions of dollars to charities, along with individual donations to individuals or families in need. Most of the bigger contributions made by the Lott have been aimed at helping foundations focused on research, education, health and disaster relief.
The overall amount donated by the Lott in the last fiscal year was more than AU$1.4 billion.
As mentioned above, the latest holiday donations of the Lott were aimed at surprising the teams of the WCHF and the CCA through SA Lotteries. Bronwyn Spencer, a spokesperson of the lottery organisation, said that they were glad to have been able to help the ones who care for families in South Australia.
Workers and executives of both charities expressed their gratitude for the donations and shared the money would be used to provide essential services to families in need.
The Lott Makes Regular Donations to Various Health and Education Charities in the Country
The Lott’s most recent completed fiscal year was through on June 30th, 2019. In it, the lottery organisation managed to make donations estimated at about AU$1.4 billion to various community initiatives.
It addition, it also unveiled some of the communities and the charities that received benefits from its the organisation through donations in the current calendar year. Past donations were mostly associated with the construction of new hospitals and other forms of infrastructure but in 2019, SA Lotteries expanded the area of contribution with new programs and services that it contributed to. Some of them are the Centre for Child and Adolescent Brain Cancer, Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation in NSW, Mater Foundation, etc.
Apart from that, the Lott has been focused on communities that find it hard to provide some essential needs for children, including education. This year, the organisation helped the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Stars Foundation. Besides, the Lott helped charities engaged with helping people and communities deal with the damage done by natural disasters in 2019. The organisation made an AU$500,000 donation to Queensland Flood Appeal.
As explained by Ms Spencer, the impact charities and their teams had on individuals, families and communities in South Australia is significant, so the Lott was willing to do something to help them continue the excellent work they had been doing for other people.
Currently, the Lott is the official operator of Australia’s leading lottery games. In the fiscal year that ended on June 30th, 2019, it paid out prize money of over AU$3.3 billion from all of its games combined.
